HE Interiors was selected to design and deliver the interior fit-out for Gentle Procedures’ first UK clinic in Birmingham — a flagship site for a rapidly expanding specialist in men’s health and surgical care. Gentle Procedures UK brings a globally proven set of surgical services to the UK, focusing on minimally invasive circumcision and no-scalpel vasectomy using the internationally recognised Pollock Technique™, delivered within a private, discreet, and patient-centred setting.

The brief given to HE Interiors was multifaceted. Gentle Procedures wanted a space that reflected its core values — confidence, care, and comfort — while supporting efficient clinical workflows and creating an environment that felt reassuring rather than intimidating. The clinic had to communicate professionalism and safety, but also warmth and empathy; not only would patients range from adults seeking vasectomy or circumcision, but families bringing infants and children for procedures that needed to feel calm and supportive.

The project site, a mid-sized commercial unit on Birmingham Business Park, presented physical and operational challenges. The design had to reconcile the need for strict clinical zoning, including consultation and treatment rooms compliant with healthcare standards, with a welcoming public face. Sound privacy was especially important: consultations regarding personal health and surgical options require confidentiality and dignity.

To meet these needs, HE Interiors developed a human-centred, evidence-based design strategy that balanced function with atmosphere. The clinic’s reception and waiting area were designed to feel open yet private, with careful sightline management so that patients did not feel exposed upon arrival. Materials throughout the public spaces with soft textiles, warm timber accents, and muted tones which were deliberately chosen to counteract the starkness often associated with clinical environments, without compromising hygiene or cleanability. These finishes support a calm ambience that aligns with Gentle Procedures’ emphasis on putting patients at ease from first contact to recovery. 

HE Interiors also integrated practical design solutions for core clinical functions. The layout groups consulting rooms, procedure rooms, and staff support areas around a central back-of-house core, promoting logical workflow and minimal unnecessary movement. Adjustable lighting systems were specified to allow clinicians to switch between clinical task lighting and softer ambient settings for consultations, reinforcing Gentle Procedures’ ethos of dignity and patient comfort. 

Delivering the clinic on time involved HE Interiors managing all phases from concept and space planning to procurement, installation, and commissioning. Given Gentle Procedures’ intention to open quickly and begin offering core services while expanding others, HE Interiors recommended a phased approach that allowed initial consultation and assessment services to start earlier while finalising advanced clinical fittings for surgical treatment suites.

Gentle Procedures Birmingham now serves as a model for future UK clinics, demonstrating how design can support not just operational excellence but also therapeutic outcomes. The collaboration between HE Interiors and Gentle Procedures illustrates the value of thoughtful, user-centred design in healthcare environments where patient trust and experience are central to success.
